Former Wolves manager Bruno Lage can count himself “hard done by” following his sacking on Sunday.
That is the view of TalkSport pundit Simon Jordan, who was reacting to the news on Monday.
After a 2-0 defeat at West Ham United, Wolves find themselves in the relegation zone heading into next weekend’s fixture at Chelsea, with the club taking action by announcing the termination of Lage’s contract.
Having won two Premier League matches in his last 16 games, the Portuguese manager’s departure seemed to be a case of when rather than if.
But Jordan believes that Lage was unlucky, saying that having a proven goalscorer may have changed the outcome of his future.
Jordan said: “I think he can consider himself a little bit hard done by because they are not a bad side, Wolves.
“They just can’t score enough goals.
“And that’s why they signed Diego Costa, because ultimately, they’ve lost [Diogo] Jota, [Raúl] Jiménez was out for a period of time – and as a side, they’re not a bad side.
“If you look at their results, were they really going to beat Spurs and [Manchester] City this season?
“I thought he was doing a relatively reasonable job.”

We are inclined to disagree with Jordan’s comments on Lage, though we do agree that the side lack a top-class goalscorer.
However, even without a centre-forward, the West Midlands side should not be in a position where they have only scored three Premier League goals this season (the least in the division), which has frustrated fans throughout the back-end of the last campaign and the current one.
Therefore, we think that Lage’s sacking was justified, with the club needing to make quick changes in order to give the side the best possible chance of dragging themselves away from a relegation battle before the World Cup break.
