Sean Dyche has been backed to be a “brilliant fit” as the next potential manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

That is the view of pundit Danny Murphy, who was speaking about the latest Wolves news on TalkSport.

It was widely believed that ex-Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui was set to take over from Bruno Lage, who was relieved of his duties at the beginning of the month with the club in the relegation zone.

However, reports emerged on Tuesday evening that Lopetegui had turned down the chance to manage Wolves, with the Spaniard wanting to focus on personal matters at this moment in time.

And Murphy believes that former Burnley manager Dyche would be the ideal candidate to take the reins at Molineux as the club looks to avoid the drop to the Championship this season.

He said: “I think there’s an obvious candidate for them, really obvious, in Sean Dyche.

“He knows how to stay in the league. I think with the better players he’s got, I think he could get them playing good football; I don’t think he’s a one-trick pony – far from it.

“I think he’d be a brilliant fit.”

Test your knowledge on Wolves' managerial candidates! First up: in what year did Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui almost take the Wolves hotseat?

TIF Thoughts on Murphy’s comments…

We can’t foresee a situation in which Dyche is appointed as Wolves manager, as we believe that the most likely replacement will be a Jorge Mendes client, with the West Midlands club working in hand with the super-agent for multiple years.

Meanwhile, the Express & Star’s Liam Keen has reported that the club are not currently interested in ex-Olympiacos manager Pedro Martins.

Given that Mainz manager Bo Svensson was rumoured alongside Lopetegui as a top target for Wolves, we believe the Dane could be the most likely solution for Wolves at present, while no reliable outlets have suggested that Dyche is firmly in the running at the time of writing.
