Wolverhampton Wanderers might as well wait until the World Cup to hire a new permanent manager as more managerial candidates could become available after the tournament.
That is the opinion of journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news at Molineux.
Wolves sacked former head coach Bruno Lage at the start of October after the side endured a poor start to the Premier League season.
After being turned down by recently sacked Julen Lopetegui and QPR head coach Michael Beale, the club announced that interim manager Steve Davis would remain as head coach until 2023.
And Jones believes that this might be the right thing to do, with more managers likely to become available once the World Cup is over.
He said: “Maybe that’s part of the thinking, maybe it’s that a high-profile manager loses his job at the World Cup or on the back of the World Cup, which gives them an opportunity to bring in someone significant from that area.
“I guess if you’ve got to wait, you might as well wait and see how the World Cup unfolds, because there will suddenly be at least one or two managers that become available that aren’t available right now.”

Whilst we can agree that with both Lopetegui and Beale turning the club down there are no obvious candidates to take the job, Wolves’ position in the league suggests that they need someone now, with the club embroiled in a fully-fledged relegation battle.
The club have already seemingly explored the prospect of reappointing Nuno Espírito Santo, whilst out-of-work managers such as Sean Dyche remain available.
We therefore agree that there are no outstanding candidates available for the role whilst some may become available come the end of the World Cup – but it very much feels like Wolves can’t wait around too long, or they could risk being cut adrift once the Premier League gets back underway.
