Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United winger Maxwel Cornet believes he will be back from injury soon.
Speaking to the press ahead of their most recent Premier League match, Hammers manager David Moyes revealed that the Ivorian would not be fit for the game due to a ‘small calf strain’.
Speaking about the chance meeting on The West Ham Way podcast, the insider revealed some good news on the situation as the winger should be back ‘very soon’.
Ex explained: “I actually bumped into Max Cornet at the game and I asked him how long [until] he was going to be back in, and he reckons he should be back very soon.
“So hopefully, the Southampton game, he’s got an outside chance. And then if not that, the game after. He was walking fine when I was with him, so the calf injury that he’s got isn’t expected to be particularly serious.”
TIF Thoughts on Maxwel Cornet and West Ham…
Having joined West Ham in the summer for £17.5m after signing from Burnley on a five-year contract, Cornet has shown glimpses of his quality so far at his new club.
Indeed, in the Europa Conference League, he has delivered three assists in two games, while he also set two goals up in as many qualifying fixtures (via Transfermarkt).
However, his season has been a little bit stop-start at this stage due to some fitness struggles and this was noted recently in the media by former player Kevin Campbell.
He had good things to say about Cornet in an interview with Football Insider, speaking about his ability to ‘turn the jets on’ but expressed some concern about his injury record.
In full, he said: “Not only is he a dribbler, he is one of those players who can turn the jets on. He can shift. Once you have got that, there are different permutations to what these guys can do.
“I think it is a tough one. Unfortunately, injuries are a difficult thing for teams right now.
“Cornet has started his West Ham career pretty well to be honest. Hopefully, it is not too long that he is out because he is doing ok.“
