David Moyes slammed for dig at Jarrod Bowen

ExWHUemployee has slammed West Ham United manager David Moyes for his apparent recent dig at key winger Jarrod Bowen.

Over the weekend, the 25-year-old managed to score for the Hammers in their Premier League victory, but picked up a nasty-looking injury along the way as he appeared to dislocate a finger.

After the game, Moyes was asked about the incident and used it as an opportunity to deliver a brutal joke at Bowen’s expense in regard to the player’s recent form.

Indeed, when the West Ham manager was told Bowen’s finger looked to be pointing the other way, he replied (via football.london): “Was it? His feet have been doing that a few times this season.”

In reaction to this, while speaking on The West Ham Way podcast about the Hammers’ fitness concerns, Ex claimed that Bowen probably wouldn’t have been too happy about those comments.

He explained: “Bowen, it’s just the case of his finger. I don’t know if you saw the quote that Moyes said about that. But he said something along the lines of, he’s been playing some of the season with his foot looking that way. He said it as a joke.

“I don’t think it went down too well with Bowen. I mean, I don’t know for certain, that’s just my opinion. But I wouldn’t have thought Bowen took it [well].

“I mean, he’s not gonna be like completely p****d off, but it’s not the greatest thing to have read. And I know it was said as banter, but yeah, I wasn’t overly keen on that quote.”

TIF Thoughts on Jarrod Bowen and West Ham…

Last season, Bowen was a man on fire for the Hammers as he scored 18 goals and delivered 13 assists in all competitions for the east London club. This term, however, he has started somewhat slowly.

Indeed, his strike against Wolves at the weekend was his first goal contribution in the Premier League so far in the current campaign. With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Moyes may have been so keen to take a little dig at his player in a joking manner.

Still, if Bowen isn’t exactly having a great time of it lately, such comments could have a negative impact on his confidence, which would do him no favours as he looks to recapture his best form again.

All in all, it does seem as though Moyes was treading a little too close to the edge with his latest quotes and he may need to be just a little bit more careful in future press conferences if he wants to avoid upsetting any star players.
