Presenter ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United defender Craig Dawson is a doubt for the next game amid a thigh injury.
The centre-back was unable to play in the club’s last Premier League outing and so wasn’t there to help out as the Hammers had to settle for a 1-1 draw away from home.
Having missed out on that Southampton game, it looks as though he is likely to miss the upcoming game against Liverpool – although he is yet to officially be ruled out.
While speaking about Dawson on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex has now been able to confirm that the injury was actually caused by an unfortunate training ground collision with teammate Flynn Downes.
Indeed, he said (7:08): “Dawson has a thigh injury, which has swollen. He sustained it, I believe in a clash, ironically, with Flynn Downes.
TIF Thoughts on Craig Dawson and West Ham…
A lack of fitness has made for a frustratingly slow start to the season for the West Ham defender. Indeed, he didn’t feature in any of the club’s first seven Premier League games of the season before returning to the starting lineup against Wolves (via Transfermarkt).
The Irons won that game and then also picked up all three points the following week against Fulham, with Dawson playing the full 90 minutes in both matches.
Without Dawson, West Ham have won just once in the league, while he has also played in every Europa Conference League game for the club this term – winning them all –so it’s safe to say the defender is still a hugely valuable asset.
With that in mind, it will be a concern to hear that he probably won’t feature against Liverpool but at least there is an outside shot that he makes it.
