ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd will probably only be used in Europe before the World Cup.

The Moroccan centre-back is yet to play a competitive game for the Hammers since his big-money move from Rennes in the summer due to a bad ankle injury.

Indeed, after his £30m transfer, the defender was hurt in a pre-season game against Rangers and has only recently returned to training. However, while he could soon be ready to make his debut, it sounds as if he won’t be playing in the Premier League for West Ham any time soon.

Writing on The West Ham Way Patreon page, Ex explained: “Nayef Aguerd has also been in training but it is expected that he will be only used in Europe prior to the World Cup. This will be the first time all season that all of our centre-backs will have been available at the same time, assuming there are no more additional injuries.”

TIF Thoughts on Nayef Aguerd and West Ham…

Ahead of their clash with Bournemouth on Monday night, the Hammers currently sit much closer to the relegation zone than they would have hoped or expected going into the season, having finished sixth and seventh in the two prior league campaigns.

No doubt, Aguerd would have been signed with the ambition to help maintain the club’s recent run of European football, but his injury has prevented him from helping the team thus far.

With the likes of Thilo Kehrer, Craig Dawson, Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna in the squad, the Irons certainly have plenty of alternatives to the 26-year-old.

And with that in mind, David Moyes clearly feels it is better to ease Aguerd into action and reserve him for games in the Europa Conference League before the break for the World Cup.

Still, if league form doesn’t improve in the next few weeks, that decision could backfire, though the main priority will surely be to avoid any further disruption to Aguerd’s long-term recovery.
