Spurs’ potential deal with Google over the naming rights of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could “lead to quite a lot of excitement”.

That is the view of Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from Hotspur Way.

According to The Athletic, Google is in serious talks with Spurs over a naming rights deal for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, Football Insider sources have been informed that Amazon is also in the running to secure a deal with the north London club over the rights to name the stadium, with any sponsorship agreement “likely” to be worth up to £250m over a 10-year period.

Jones is cautious over a potential deal with Google, but suggests that it could be exciting for Spurs if they could land a deal with one of the most recognisable brands on the planet.

He said: “We’ll have to wait to see how those talks go.

“But if Google really did get the naming rights of that stadium, I think it could lead to quite a lot of excitement.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We think that if Spurs could land a huge deal with Google (or Amazon), it would give them a huge uplift in their finances and would enable Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici to spend more money on bringing top-quality players to Antonio Conte’s side.

Back in March, Spurs ranked 10th in Deloitte’s 2022 Football Money League rankings with a total revenue of around £351m, whilst Manchester City topped the list at over £557m – suggesting that the Lilywhites still have a way to go in terms of competing with the richest clubs’ finances.

Therefore, we think that a naming rights deal with Google would indeed cause a lot of excitement around the club as Jones says, as it may bring them up to a level playing field in order to afford the cream of the crop of Europe’s best players.
