Sections of the media have taken aim at Hugo Lloris following his poor display for Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.

Spurs were brought crashing down to earth on Saturday as they tasted their first league defeat of the season and fell four points behind their table-topping league rivals, which will be hugely disappointing for Antonio Conte.

Tottenham went into half-time on level terms thanks to Harry Kane’s penalty, but a major blunder from Hugo Lloris, who first parried out a shot before letting the ball squirm beneath his body, saw the Gunners take a 2-1 lead. Emerson Royal later saw red for a late challenge to compound Spurs’ misery.

But it was the club’s skipper that took plenty of stick this afternoon after his high-profile error.

Rating the Frenchman’s performance at 5/10, the Evening Standard’s Malik Ouzla said: “Made some crucial saves but dreadful distribution invited pressure and spilled Bukayo Saka shot for Gabriel Jesus goal.”

Meanwhile, 90min’s Tom Gott was also far from impressed by the 4/10 Lloris and his distribution at the Emirates, saying: “A couple of nice saves to go along with some absolutely honking passes. Really poor for the second goal as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Lloris’ display…

There had been talk in the build-up to the derby about whether Lloris would even be fit enough to play against Arsenal after withdrawing from international action last week due to an injury, and some may have wished he was unavailable in hindsight due to his major error.

It may well have been that Lloris wasn’t fully fit and that’s why he was slightly off his game, however, the second goal that Tottenham conceded showed poor judgement on where the shot was going to land.

Conte will be hoping that his captain and No 1 can bounce back this midweek when Spurs travel to Germany in the Champions League – a competition in which they’ve only won once this season, which means the pressure is firmly on them to move on quickly.

Lloris makes so many mistakes it’s ridiculous, he’s cost us so many points over the years he shouldn’t be captain, in fact he shouldn’t even be in the team, we need a new number 1.

Time is catching up on Hugo. We must invest heavily on another keeper. Get rid of Royal and starting playing Spence. We must win next game in the CL now or our season can be a disaster already.
