Emerson Royal was slammed for his Tottenham Hotspur display which saw him sent off in the second half.

Spurs found themselves 1-0 down rather early on into the first half, but a Harry Kane penalty saw them head into half-time on level terms, which will have pleased their manager Antonio Conte – but the worst was yet to come.

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris made a huge error which allowed Gabriel Jesus to benefit and tap home into an empty net for Arsenal, with Emerson going one step further and getting himself sent off for a foul on Gabriel Martinelli.

In Football.london’s live blog run by Tom Canton, Alasdair Gold and Kaya Kaynak, it was clear that Emerson had far from impressed and his apparent poor challenge on his fellow Brazillian:

“Emerson is deemed to have put a high tackle on Gabriel Martinelli. Looking again, Emerson puts his studs down on the winger’s ankle and you have to question what on Earth he was thinking.”

TIF Thoughts on Emerson’s red card…

While it may be up for debate whether or not Emerson should have seen red, the fact that he mistimed the tackle so much that he ended up catching Martinelli high up on his ankle is poor from the Spurs defender.

The fact that Emerson allowed Anthony Taylor to make such a decision will likely leave Conte even more furious than the actual sending-off itself, although it did all but confirm Spurs would not be picking up what would have been only their second league win at the Emirates Stadium.

Emerson will now be set for a period of time on the sidelines due to his red card, although that could in turn allow someone such as Matt Doherty to nail down a spot in the first team.
