Dimitar Berbatov has not held back in his criticism of Tottenham Hotspur’s Emerson Royal following his North London derby red card.

Tottenham were well and truly put to the sword yesterday in the North London derby eventually losing 3-1 to their rival and also finished the game with 10 men when Emerson was handed his marching orders in the second half.

When Emerson was brandished with a red card Spurs were already 2-1 down so it only further compounded their misery and confirmed the win for Arsenal as they went on to add a third not too long after and Berbatov has ripped into the Brazillian.

The former Spurs ace has been speaking on PL Productions (via The Spurs Web) about Emerson’s poor tackle and he had this to say:

Should Emerson have been sent off?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

‘Sometimes if you’re not smart enough like in this case you are going to do the stupid thing. For me, that is a stupid challenge, honestly. It is not calculated. The ball is far away. He is just begging for a card. Was it a harsh red card? Maybe.’

TIF Thoughts on Emerson’s tackle…

It was a very stupid decision for Emerson as not only did he completely mistime the tackle on Gabriel Martinelli, there was absolutely no need for him to dive in on the Arsenal winger out wide and not seemingly going anywhere quickly.

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

However, with Emerson now suspended for a prolonged period of time, it may well hand someone such as Matt Doherty an opportunity to get back into the starting lineup after recently speaking about how much Antonio Conte trusts him.

It’s probably safe to say that most Spurs fans will share Berbatov’s opinion on Emerson and his decision to get himself off as it completely ruined their chances of even getting a point out of a huge game.

Just one word describes him ” idiot” Get him out of there. God bless that he is unavailable for the next three games. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. Get Spence in ASP.
