Tottenham Hotspur would be pulling off a “massive coup” by securing a deal with Google for the naming rights of their stadium.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news at the north London club.

It had been reported by The Athletic earlier this week that Tottenham and Google were in negotiations for the naming rights to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Securing a deal with Google could give Spurs a massive uplift in cash which could enable them to compete with Europe’s biggest clubs in terms of finances.

O’Rourke seemed to imply that given the club’s search for a naming rights partner has been going on for some time and the stadium being an expensive project in the first place, an agreement with Google would be worth the wait.

He said: “It’d be a massive coup for Tottenham.

“I think this has been going on for quite a while now, trying to get naming rights for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which was obviously very expensive to build in the first place.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

We agree with O’Rourke and think that getting Google on board would at least go some way to repaying the £1bn it cost to build the stadium.

According to Football Insider, the potential deal with Google (in which Amazon are now also trying to rival) could secure Spurs up to £250m over a period of time, in what would be a massive boost for the club’s finances.

Therefore, we think that Daniel Levy and co should be doing everything in their power to make sure a deal with Google is secured in the near future to ensure that the club can continue to have a healthy transfer budget in the upcoming windows.
