Tottenham Hotspur will be among a host of club vying for the signature of Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.
That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from Hotspur Way.
According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs, Spurs would be handed a massive advantage in the race to sign Maddison if they were to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Newcastle United are also known to be interested in the attacking midfielder, with the Tyneside club offering £50m for the 25-year-old’s services back in the summer transfer window, but the east Midlands side knocked back the offer, suggesting that he was worth £60m.
And O’Rourke says that whilst Maddison is under contract at Leicester, the journalist is sure that he doesn’t see himself as someone stuck at a relegation-threatened side.
The journalist said: “He’s obviously under contract at Leicester City, they wouldn’t want to see him go, but James Maddison I’m sure doesn’t see himself playing in a relegation battle all too often.
“He’s been in great form for Leicester this season, I think he’s top scorer as well.
“So, he’s always going to attract interest because he’s a top-class player.
“I’m sure Tottenham will be among a number of clubs who would be interested in signing James Maddison.”
TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…
We feel Maddison is exactly the type of player Antonio Conte needs at Spurs this season, with the side lacking a No 10 option amongst their midfielders.
The former Norwich City man has been in stunning form for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 11 Premier League appearances according to Transfermarkt.
Therefore, we think that Spurs should be looking to cough up the £60m that Leicester wanted in the summer transfer window, as his signing could be transformative to their season.
