Alasdair Gold has admitted on his YouTube channel that he expects Tottenham Hotspur to offer Antonio Conte a new contract in the near future.

While having one of the best managers in world football given his history of winning silverware will be great for Spurs fans, he does indeed only have a contract that runs until the summer of 2023, which could have a few people worried.

However, Spurs do have the option to extend Conte’s deal by one year which sees them have security over at least his short-term future, but Gold has admitted he would be surprised if a longer-term deal wasn’t offered to the Italian boss.

Gold believes it’s very unlikely that Spurs will only offer Conte that one-year extension option instead of a long-term deal.

“I must keep stressing this because I know some pundits don’t really seem to know this – Spurs have this option to make it another year, which was agreed with Conte when he first started back in November last year.

“So, the only reason for Conte to be out of contract at the end of this season is if Spurs decide not to take that option up, which is incredibly unlikely bearing in mind the improvements he has made at Tottenham and getting them into the Champions League.

“Like I say, I wouldn’t be stunned if it’s a new deal anyway, let alone the option so I feel like that’s a narrative that’s an easy one born out of maybe a lack of knowledge of this option.”

TIF Thoughts on Conte’s future…

It will be a massive relief for Spurs fans to know that it’s likely their club will be looking to offer Conte a new deal and not just settle for the option of triggering a one-year extension.

Conte has managed to turn Spurs’ fortunes around in a relatively short period of time because when he took over they hadn’t played Champions League football since the 2019/20 season, whereas now they are looking likely to progress through their Champions League group.
