Journalist Alasdair Gold believes that Antonio Conte will soon change to a 3-5-2 formation at Tottenham Hotspur following their north London derby defeat.
Spurs fell to yet another defeat at the Emirates Stadium – ensuring that they’ve still won just once in the league at that ground – and with a Champions League trip to Eintracht Frankfurt on the horizon, a change could be just around the corner.
So far this season, Conte has persisted with his various tried-and-tested 3-4-3 setups with pretty good success, having seen his Spurs side lose just once before the weekend, while they are currently third in the Premier League.
However, Gold has admitted on his YouTube channel that a change to a 3-5-2 system could now well be on the cards for Tottenham.
He said: “I think Skipp in that formation, just sitting there at the axis and allowing Hojbjerg and Bentancur to push on, probably would have worked as well, but like I say, fitness-wise it probably would have been a bit early to just chuck him in there.
“But I think we will see the 3-5-2. I think we will, because there’s no other way to keep rotating players – otherwise, you are going to have three attacking players playing in every game up there.”

TIF Thoughts on Conte’s formation decision…
It will be interesting to see if Conte remains adamant and stuck in his ways when it comes to the formation he’ll decide to opt for, or whether he can swallow his pride and decide 3-5-2 is actually the best way to go with Spurs.
Tottenham have now only won once in their last three games across all competitions – and that was against Leicester City, who are currently propping up the table in 20th, so that’s nothing to really shout about.
The fact that Conte had only Bryan Gil to call upon in the north London derby off the bench in an attacking sense shows why 3-5-2 may be a better option as it would see one of Son Heung-min or Richarlison likely drop to the bench and become an impact substitute as Dejan Kulusevski can be deployed as more of a wing-back if he is fit.
