Tottenham Hotspur will not have an opportunity in the January transfer window to land Alessandro Bastoni from Inter.

This is according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking about Tottenham’s transfer plans on CBS Soccer’s House of Champions YouTube channel.

Spurs have been strongly linked with the Italian centre-back over the last six months, with it believed he was their main summer target in that position.

However, it was decided that he would remain at the San Siro despite the notion he would like to play under Antonio Conte again at some point in his career.

There have been recent reports suggesting Spurs still hold an interest in Bastoni ahead of the upcoming winter market, however, Romano believes there is no possibility of him leaving Inter before the summer.

Speaking of Spurs’ chances of landing Bastoni, he said: “Not for January. Bastoni in January is staying, because for Inter he’s a key player, they are going to play the next stage of Champions League, so he’s not leaving.

“In the summer, we will see. It depends on Antonio [Conte] – if Antonio will still be there, it depends on Inter’s strategy. It’s too early to say, but in January, nothing will happen for Bastoni.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

This will not be what Spurs fans will have wanted to hear ahead of the January window given some of the issues they’ve had in defence over recent weeks.

Do you think Bastoni would want to join Spurs?

In Tottenham’s last three games, Conte’s men have conceded two goals in each. To put this into context, Spurs had only conceded 10 goals in the 10 games prior.

And on top of this, Bastoni is really shining for Inter. The 23-year-old has grabbed an assist in his last three games across the Champions League and Serie A (via Transfermarkt).

However, with under two years left on his deal, it will be intriguing to see whether Bastoni extends his Inter contract or becomes a realistic possibility to be signed in the summer transfer window.
