Tottenham Hotspur insider John Wenham believes that Lucas Moura’s recovery from injury is a big boost for the club.

The Lilywhite Rose podcaster was speaking following Moura’s return to action this past week.

Having sustained a calf injury in mid-August the Brazilian’s season has yet to really get underway.

Prior to his setback, the 30-year-old had only played 12 minutes of football after falling behind Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison in the pecking order.

However, with both men now on the sidelines Wenham believes that Morua’s return is a timely one.
He told Football Insider:

“Another real positive, for me, was the reintroduction of Lucas Moura from the bench.

“I just feel that having him as an option with so many games coming up is huge because he is someone who can actually come on and contribute.

“For all the stick Lucas gets, he is reliable and he has this incredible ability to change a game if he is in the mood when he comes on.

“Squad depth is key in this game and too many times this season we have brought players off the bench and they haven’t done anything.

“Lucas will perform when given the opportunity so when he manages to play more than a few minutes and he is back to full fitness we will have a really good option there.”

Just Moura and Bryan Gil were attacking options off the bench for Antonio Conte for the visit of Everton on Saturday and with Richarlison, who started the game, now out one of them could be in line for a starting berth for the Manchester United fixture on Wednesday night.

The Italian coach may opt to tweak his set-up to a 3-5-2 which he used at Brighton as Yves Bissouma came into the midfield with Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane as a forward pair.

Either way, he now has another alternative in the form of Moura to help navigate through a difficult spell that sees the side play eight times in the next three and a half weeks.
