Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Southampton are in the midst of a pivotal week in their season with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s future far from secure.

The Saints slipped into the bottom three over the weekend despite ending a four-game losing run.

Hasenuttl’s side picked up their first point since August as they drew 1-1 with West Ham at St.Mary’s having also taken the lead.

They now take on Bournemouth in a big south-coast derby on Wednesday which will likely have huge ramifications.

Given their current form, Dean Jones spoke to GIVEMESPORT about the club’s current managerial situation, as he stated: “The biggest problem is probably that it’s come as a bit of a surprise that they’re having to make this decision right now. What we do know is this is a massive week for the club, and if things don’t go well, then they really are going to have to consider that change.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Will Ralph Hasenhuttl last until Christmas as Southampton boss?

Yes

Yes

No

No

With just five games to go until the mid-season break which includes the hosting of Arsenal and Newcastle as well as a trip to take on Liverpool, it is hard to envisage the Saints attaining any points this side of Christmas apart from at the Vitality Stadium and perhaps in the upcoming visit to Selhurst Park.

Even so Gary O’Neil has done a tremendous job steadying the ship at the Cherries. They are unbeaten in six games, winning twice along the way and find themselves firmly in mid-table, so it won’t be easy.

A win for Southampton would leave them just two points behind their neighbours in what is a tightly-packed bottom half and for Hasenhuttl personally, it could be essential.
