Journalist Matt Davies has revealed that the Nottingham Forest players would not take two days off when it was offered to them by manager Steve Cooper.

The City Ground was at fever pitch following Forest’s spirited win in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal proved decisive as the east Midlanders secured all three points against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

It was only Forest’s second win of the campaign but leaves them just two points adrift of safety after 12 games.

Things aren’t about to get any easier with a trip to face the current league leaders Arsenal to come this weekend and it appears that the team quickly shifted their attention to the Gunners.

Speaking on the Garibaldi Red podcast Davies said:

(31:43)” Just what you were saying there about spirit and belief I mean I was told that they were given two days off after the game but the players said to the manager they don’t want it and they might be in today (Monday).
“I think that’s right I’m sure it is. It shows there is a bond there.

Given the situation, the Reds find themselves in it is certainly exciting for fans to read that their team aren’t resting on their laurels.

After all, it was only three points despite the level of opposition.

Following the trip to the Emirates Stadium, Forest will feel they now have two very winnable games prior to the World Cup.

They welcome Brentford, who are yet to win on the road this season, to the City Ground before hosting Crystal Palace, also winless on their travels.

Backed by a raucous home crowd like we witnessed on Saturday afternoon, Cooper’s side could well leave themselves in a promising position before the mid-season break.
