Alan Shearer was left very impressed by what he saw from Miguel Almiron during Newcastle United’s dominant victory.

The Magpies travelled down to Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon and put on a fantastic performance for their travelling contingent, picking up all three points as well as treating them to four goals – including a stunner from Almiron.

Almiron is now the club’s joint-top scorer in the Premier League this season alongside Callum Wilson, and his first strike may already be October’s goal of the month, and the Newcastle club legend was very impressed by what he saw from the attacker.

The BBC pundit was full of praise for Almiron while speaking on Match of the Day.

“Two games for Paraguay, still had loads of energy, running in behind, he caused them all problems all afternoon and you are about to see the goal of the month, if not goal of the season, what a strike this is.

“The technique, the ability to do it, the confidence to do it. The ‘keeper has no chance, it’s an unbelievable strike, watching the ball all the way, look at that technique to get it up and down, the dip on it to get it over the goalkeeper.

Have you been impressed by Almiron this season?

Yes!

No!

No!

“It was a really impressive performance from him and from Newcastle. I know they [Fulham] had the red card and were down to 10 men, but you still had to do it.

“He gets his second goal there, in that right position, having the desire to get in at that far post. It was a special performance from him.”

TIF Thoughts on Almiron…

A lot of the local media heaped praise on Almiron and hoped that this would be the point in his Newcastle career that sees him become a reliable source of goals for the Magpies, having scored just 10 times in the league prior to Saturday’s brace.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Before Saturday’s game, Andrew Musgrove claimed that he believes Eddie Howe is a very big admirer of Almiron, and he certainly repaid the manager’s faith if that is the case with his superb double.

With Newcastle’s inability to sign a natural winger over the summer despite interest in Jack Harrison and Moussa Diaby, Almiron may well see this as an unexpected last chance to impress PIF and Eddie Howe. He’s certainly doing all he can, as he is now just one goal behind his best-ever total in the Premier League.
