The Athletic’s Chris Waugh was full of praise for Bruno Guimaraes after his stunning display for Newcastle United.

Guimaraes overcame an injury setback that he suffered during the international break which saw him sent home early from international duty as he starred in the Magpies’ dominant win over Fulham.

The Brazilian registered a stunning assist in the first half as he dinked over a delicate ball towards Miguel Almiron who then pulled out an equally stunning finish to leave Bernd Leno with absolutely no chance.

Despite playing less than an hour, Waugh was full of praise throughout that time for Guimaraes. The Brazilian set up Joe Willock with a ‘delicious‘ pass in the first half and was heavily involved as the Toon ran riot.

Waugh praised the midfielder’s superb display, hailing the way he was ‘running the game‘ before being substituted.

TIF Thoughts on Guimaraes…

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

It’s no surprise that Guimaraes was able to venture further forward and dominate the game against Fulham due to Sean Longstaff being deployed in a deeper-lying midfield role and Joao Palhinha being absent.

The dominant display will have pleased Eddie Howe, who managed to get decent minutes in the legs of Guimaraes without tiring him out and that will likely only benefit him and the team in the long run.

The assist for Almiron’s first goal just summed up the class and composure that he possesses and why he’s also been loosely tipped with a move to Real Madrid in the near future.
