Indeed, while speaking on Twitter, the journalist explained what he saw, saying: “An element not picked up on the cameras about Bruno’s first goal is that he ran over to Trippier – who was lining up to take the corner – and pointed to himself. Trippier switched with Miggy, and the rest is history. That communication, confidence & planning. Great to see.
Journalist Andrew Musgrove has noted that Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes helped orchestrate the set piece that led to his first goal.
The Brazilian scored twice for the Magpies on Saturday afternoon, helping his side cruise to a stunning 5-1 home win over Brentford in the Premier League.
And it was his first effort that goal to the ball rolling. The goal came from a cleverly worked setpiece as Miguel Almiron took a short corner to Kieran Trippier who crossed deep for Guimaraes to head home at the far post.
However, before the goal went in, Musgrove spotted Guimaraes instructing his teammates about the plan – something which was not picked up by the cameras.
TIF thoughts on Bruno Guimaraes and Newcastle United…
Seeing as Trippier is usually the man who takes corners for Newcastle, it certainly was a clever ploy to have him drop into a deeper position to allow Almiron to take the setpiece instead.
This afforded the right-back a different angle, as well as the space, to deliver his cross from, which evidently caught the Brentford defenders out as Guimaraes ghosted in at the far post to head home.
Despite playing the defensive midfield role in the team, the Brazilian netted twice on the day showing his quality and ability to impact the game wherever he plays – though he didn’t forget to help out at the other end either by completing four tackles.
No doubt, Eddie Howe will be delighted to see his players making clever on-field decisions as a collective such as the one that lead to this goal. It certainly bodes well for the club going forward.
