Journalist George Caulkin has claimed on Pod on the Tyne that PIF will continue to spend lavishly next summer if Newcastle United qualify for Europe.

A lot of talk has surfaced over the last few days among different media outlets on whether or not Newcastle can finish inside the top four – a spot they currently occupy – after picking up a very impressive victory away to Tottenham Hotspur.

Eddie Howe claimed in his post-match press conference that the Magpies could achieve something special and there’s no doubt that fans will be excited about what is brewing on Tyneside under the current boss, who still hasn’t even been in the job for a year.

Caulkin has now dropped an exciting transfer claim, insisting that if Newcastle qualify for Europe, PIF will act on that and spend more money on the first-team squad next summer.

He said: “If they do end the season in a European place, you can guarantee that they [PIF] would recognise what that means for the club and for the squad, and they will strengthen.

Will Newcastle finish inside the top four?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“The results are one thing and performances are another thing, and they’re both mind-bending. I’m still finding it mind-bending, seeing this improvement. But so is that other side of the club, knowing that in a year’s time, the squad will be stronger.

“It doesn’t mean they’ll get every decision right, because you can’t, but this club and squad will be stronger, you can guarantee that. That’s an amazing feeling to have.”

TIF Thoughts on PIF’s ambitions and plans…

If Newcastle can somehow qualify for the Champions League, it would be absolutely sensational given that this time last year they were in the bottom three and without a win in any competition, so the turnaround masterminded by Howe has to be acknowledged.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Even if they don’t finish in the top four, any kind of European football would be welcomed with open arms on Tyneside as they haven’t experienced any since 2013 and that would also bring about further investment in the playing squad, as mentioned by Caulkin.

If Newcastle’s signings under PIF thus far are anything to go by, fans can be excited to see more players of the same calibre as Sven Botman and Bruno Guimaraes arriving, and transform them into serious competitors with a view to potentially reaching the goal of winning the Premier League within 10 years – something mentioned by Amanda Staveley upon the club’s takeover.
