Football writer Jordan Cronin has revealed that Newcastle United assistant coach Jason Tindall wasn’t happy with Callum Wilson during the club’s most recent game.

In the Premier League this weekend, the Magpies took on Brentford at St James’ Park as they looked to pick up their third win of the season in front of their own home fans.

By half-time, Eddie Howe and co were cruising 2-0 up on their way to all three points thanks to two fine goals, coming first from Bruno Guimaraes and then Jacob Murphy.

Ivan Toney did pull one back for the Bees after the break via the penalty spot but Guimaraes swiftly responded with his second of the game to put Newcastle back in firm control as they coasted to a 5-1 victory.

However, while the game was still in the balance at 1-0, Wilson passed up a golden opportunity to help his side when he opted to go alone instead of finding a teammate. Cronin spotted this on Twitter, noting that it left coach Tindall rather angry.

He wrote: “Greedy play by Wilson. The No.9 has two players to pass to but opts to shoot, which is blocked. Assistant coach Jason Tindall wasn’t happy with Wilson’s decision-making there.”

TIF Thoughts on Callum Wilson and Newcastle…

To be fair to Wilson, he has missed a number of league matches already this season thanks to a hamstring injury, so you can understand why he might be desperate to prove his quality while fit and available to play.

And with three goals in four games coming into the Brentford clash, his goalscoring talents certainly can’t be denied. Even so, he’ll know that he won’t win the praise of any Newcastle coaches if he continues to be selfish without producing the goods.

In fact, Wilson seemed to learn this straight away as he set up Murphy just minutes later, laying it on a plate for his teammate to score into an empty net when he could have tried to go alone.
