Bruno Guimaraes’ recent comments and links to Europe’s elite should come as a “worry” for Newcastle supporters, according to Football Insider pundit John Wenham.

Wenham’s claim follows revelations made by the Toon favourite, with the Brazilian admitting that he was approached by Real Madrid in the summer and described it as the “best club” worldwide.

He did, however, claim that the “project” at St James’ Park is ‘the best in the world’ – but Wenham insists links to Europe’s elite clubs is something Magpies’ supporters will have to get used to.

Hailing his performance last week against Brentford, Wenham told Football Insider“What a performance from Bruno at the weekend.

“The fans seem to love him, and after performances like that, of course, you get all of the transfer links and things like that.

“The fact is, he is a quality player who will be watched by the biggest clubs in the world. Newcastle cannot yet compete with these guys, so that has to be a worry.

“But it looks like Bruno is happy in Newcastle and I know in the past he has spoken about being a legend there, so that’s all positive.”

Journalist Julien Laurens previously suggested on The Totally Football Show that there will come a point where Bruno is ‘far too good for Newcastle’, and if he continues to put in performances like last weekend, he is sure to attract suitors.

The eight-cap Brazil ace scored his first two goals of the campaign as Eddie Howe’s side thumped Brentford.

It led to a 10/10 match rating from The Chronicle for a ‘magic’ display.

Having signed from Lyon in a £40m move until 2026, PIF are in a good position to command a hefty profit if they were to sell Guimaraes, but with the aspirations of the club, they will be hoping they can convince the 24-year-old to stay.

Obtaining some sort of European football this season would be a huge step towards achieving that.
