It seems that VAR may have made a big mistake in the most recent Liverpool win as Mohamed Salah appeared to actually handle the ball in the build-up to his goal.

Over the weekend, the Reds managed to halt their worrying form with a hugely important win in the Premier League in front of their own fans at Anfield.

Indeed, Liverpool claimed a 1-0 victory over rivals Manchester City and it was Salah’s goal in the 76th minute of the game which ended up being all that was required to settle the affair.

For the goal, the winger expertly turned defender Joao Cancelo on the halfway line after a great pick out from goalkeeper Alisson Becker before running through to score past Ederson.

However, slow-motion footage shared on Twitter now shows that Salah actually handled the ball when getting away from his man and so the goal could have been ruled out.

Mo Salah handball goal for Liverpool

TIF thoughts on Mohamed Salah and Liverpool…

Seeing as this video has to be zoomed in greatly and played in slow motion, it’s understandable as to why the VAR team at Stockley Park presumably missed the incident.

However, Liverpool are probably fortunate that it wasn’t penalised. After all, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has a goal ruled out for a similar handball against Everton earlier this month.

Still, West Ham’s Gianluca Scamacca also looked to have handled the ball for his recent strike against Fulham that was allowed to stand, so it’s hard to know exactly how VAR is supposed to treat all these incidents.

Regardless, the ball certainly looks to have hit Salah’s hand for his goal against Man City which offered him an advantage and so fans can count themselves fairly lucky that technology decided not to intervene and ruin this huge win for their club. However, Liverpool were extremely unfortunate with a couple of decisions against Arsenal recently, so you could say that it’s about time luck was on Jurgen Klopp’s side.
