Journalist Fabrizio Romano has ruled out a January transfer move for much touted Liverpool target Jude Bellingham.

It is no secret that the Reds are keen on adding a new midfielder to their ranks in the near future and that the Borussia Dortmund man is viewed as a primary candidate for that role.

While it was believed that Liverpool would move for the Englishman in the summer, there have been reports that he could be a target in the winter instead (via Football Insider).

However, while talking about the player on House of Champions: A Daily CBS Soccer Podcast, Romano said that January is not likely at this stage.

Indeed, he explained (16:38): “Bellingham in January? I think, again, no. It is something for next summer and Liverpool will be there together with many other top clubs.”

The Reds did go out and use the loan market to strengthen their midfield in the past summer as they signed Arthur Melo from Juventus. However, a bad injury has stopped Liverpool from getting any use out of the player yet.

With that in mind, it would perhaps make sense for Jurgen Klopp’s side to move early on Bellingham and get him into the squad as soon as possible – especially after the slow start to the Premier League season they have endured.

However, as made clear by Romano’s comments, a deal won’t be easy to do this winter and so the club will likely have to battle it out for the Englishman with a number of other interested parties at the end of this campaign.
