Journalist Dean Jones has urged Leeds United winger Luis Sinisterra to learn from his mistake after he was sent off in the club’s recent league game.
In the Premier League over the past weekend, the Colombian picked up two yellow cards and was consequently handed his marching orders early into the second half.
Despite being down to 10 men against Aston Villa, the Whites managed to cling on for a draw, but they would have been frustrated to miss out on all three points, which would have been much more achievable had Sinisterra not been sent off.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Roy Keane said it was the ‘height of stupidity’, and it seems as though it really was a moment to forget for the Leeds forward.
Even so, in a recent interview, Jones told GiveMeSport that Sinisterra is a ‘gamechanger’ and remained highly positive about the Colombian – as long as he can learn from his recent error.
He said: “It’s a frustration and one that Leeds don’t need. He’ll learn from it. I’m sure he’s as annoyed as anybody else with the fact that it happened and he allowed it to happen.
“But the thing is, he is a gamechanger. He’s one of the players that’s going to define how well this season goes for them. There probably was some naivety. But hopefully, it’s a lesson he learns from and it doesn’t happen again.”
TIF Thoughts on Luis Sinisterra and Leeds…
Having arrived from Dutch outfit Feyenoord in the summer for a reported £21m, big things would have been expected of the winger this season. And to be fair, with three goals and one assist in his first seven outings for Leeds, Sinisterra has delivered at times.
Of course, this red card is a major low point for the new man and he can’t afford to make many more high-profile mistakes in the near future unless he wants to become known as a problematic player.
However, up to this stage in his career, the 23-year-old has not had any other past suspensions from red cards and the like, suggesting that his discipline is nothing to be overly concerned with. With that in mind, it seems likely that he will have already heeded Jones’ advice and learned his lesson.
