Joe Donnohue was left impressed by Leeds United’s Sonny Perkins for his latest Under-21 performance despite not scoring.

Leeds’ Under-21s recently managed to record yet another impressive victory on Wearside, with Wilfried Gnonto’s goal enough to seal all three points, which may give Jesse Marsch more to think about when it comes to the Italian’s minutes.

However, despite Gnonto getting the only goal of the game, it was fellow youngster Perkins who left Donnohue impressed despite not getting on the scoresheet – something that is quite rare for the Leeds starlet this season.

Donnohue handed Perkins an 8/10 match rating for his work midweek against Sunderland.

He wrote: “No goal for him tonight but the use of his body against senior Championship players really stood out. Intelligent mover.”

Does Perkins deserve to start for Leeds?

TIF Thoughts on Sonny Perkins…

Leeds got caught up in some controversy over the summer involving Perkins as West Ham United released a strongly worded statement claiming that the Whites may well have been trying to tap up Perkins prior to him joining over the summer as a free agent.

However, given that nothing negative has come of the way Leeds signed Perkins and convinced him to join, they will just be delighted to have him at the club, especially given how prolific he’s proving to be at under-21 level.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

So far, Perkins is yet to make his Leeds first-team debut, but it likely won’t be long before he’s given his chance considering he’s already netted eight times in eight games for Leeds’ youth side, suggesting he is too good to be playing at that level.
