Presenter and YouTuber Conor McGilligan has claimed that Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams could be a future captain for the West Yorkshire club.

During the summer, the American joined his compatriot Jesse Marsch in England as he signed from RB Leipzig for a fee reported to be in the region of £20m.

Since then, it seems the midfielder has impressed with his performances in the Premier League. So far, he has started in all but one of the club’s league games and played the full 90 minutes in the win over Liverpool.

While speaking about Adams on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan asserted that the American was ‘captain material’ and would be better suited to the role than current skipper Liam Cooper.

He said: “He is captain material. I’d have him over Cooper all day as captain.”

He then outlined an example of when Adams showed his leadership skills, saying: “[Darwin] Nunez went through on goal and of all the Leeds players, Tyler Adams was the first to go up to [Illan] Meslier just to rattle him and say, ‘yes, yes!'”

TIF Thoughts on Tyler Adams and Leeds…

Leeds have certainly struggled this season, but that win against the Reds has lifted them out of the relegation zone and up into 15th place in the Premier League.

Despite their troubles, Adams has been a pretty consistent player. Indeed, according to WhoScored, he has picked up an average match rating of 6.74 this term, while Cooper is down at 6.64.

The American also showed his leadership qualities on another occasion against Liverpool when he confronted Andy Robertson after he kicked the ball at teammate Brenden Aaronson.

While it seems unlikely that Marsch would swap captains at this stage, Adams is only 23 years old and so will have plenty of time to prove himself further in the coming seasons.
