Pundit Jermaine Jenas has praised Leeds United forward Luis Sinisterra even though the winger picked up a red card in his most recent game for the club.

On Sunday, the Whites had to settle for just a point in a feisty Premier League match at Elland Road that ultimately ended 0-0.

The most telling moment of the game came in the 48th minute when Sinisterra was awarded his second yellow of the game for blocking the ball as Douglas Luiz attempted to take a quick free kick.

Despite that, Leeds still managed to cling on to claim a point. And while speaking after the game, Jenas praised the club and player for aspects of their game.

Indeed, talking on Match of the Day 2, the pundit said: “I think, given their turnaround in the summer and some of the really important players that they’ve missed, I watched a team that was playing with a lot of confidence when they had 11 players on the pitch.

“In that first half in particular, down this left-hand side, creating a lot of chances. I still think that is an area that is of concern to me – when that ball goes into the six-yard box. Everything leading up to it is really special to see.

He continued: “Sinisterra looks like a lively player. I know he got sent off today, but everything down this left-hand side and the way they were knitting things together, lovely little movements.”

TIF Thoughts on Luis Sinisterra and Leeds…

Sinisterra, who is allegedly on £10k per week, joined Leeds in the summer, arriving from Dutch side Feyenoord for a fee in the region of £21m. Since then, up until this Villa clash, he had looked pretty impressive.

Indeed, the winger netted in each of his first three starts for the club across all competitions, while also picking up an assist in the EFL Cup (via Transfermarkt).

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Jenas feels positive about the overall quality of the forward. However, the red card was pretty silly – Roy Keane even told Sky Sports it was the ‘height of stupidity’.

No doubt, the Colombian will have to make sure this is a one-off incident if he is to retain the support of pundits like Jenas.
