YouTuber Conor McGilligan has claimed that Leeds United youngster Sam Greenwood might go out on loan to the Championship this winter.
Up to this stage in the season, the Whites have made a reasonable start in the Premier League and sit 12th in the table on nine points, with a game in hand on most of the clubs around them.
However, Greenwood is yet to start in the division and has played just 28 minutes across three substitute appearances. With that in mind, he might not be too keen on his position in the Leeds squad.
While discussing the player on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan claimed that the 20-year-old may prefer to be sent out on loan to the Championship in the January transfer window as a result.
He explained: “I reckon if you offered Sam Greenwood a Championship move and said, ‘look, you’re going to be playing 90 minutes week-in, week-out’ – as Leeds did with someone like Cody Drameh, as Leeds have done with Charlie Cresswell – I think that is something that Sam Greenwood would prefer.
“And I think there’s going to be movement there, potentially in January.”
TIF Thoughts on Sam Greenwood and Leeds…
Last season, Cody Drameh went out on loan to Cardiff City during the January transfer window and proved to be a great success there, being named as the club’s player of the season – so the club may be tempted to try and repeat the trick with Greenwood.
As mentioned before, it’s not as if he is playing regularly, having claimed his only start of the campaign with 75 minutes in the EFL Cup. Therefore, a temporary exit may be best for the youngster’s development.
Last term, Greenwood, who has been described as a ‘great weapon’, showed his potential with a series of Premier League outings from the bench, including an assist in a 23-minute cameo against Watford, but if he isn’t going to get any more game time than that over the coming months, he might be tempted to push for an exit.
It certainly could be something to look out for this winter.
