Phil Hay has now revealed that Leeds United and Jesse Marsch have been talking about what they should do during the upcoming World Cup break.
Leeds, much like every other club in the Premier League, are gearing up for what is set to be a very strange winter as a World Cup will take place mid-season for the first time in the competition’s history, stopping top-flight football for a prolonged period of time.
The Whites’ last game comes on 12th November, and they don’t play again until Boxing Day against Manchester City, which isn’t the greatest of games to come back to – but Marsch is keen to keep his players fit and firing by taking them overseas in the winter.
Hay has claimed on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show that Leeds are talking about a mid-season trip to the United States.
He said: “Marsch was saying last week, we were asking him about what Leeds will do when the break comes round, and he says they’ll get a fortnight off to begin with and then they’ll be back in.
“There has been talk about them going to the States, going to California to train over there, and to, I guess, kill a bit of time as everybody waits to get going again on Boxing Day.”
Are you happy with Leeds this season?
Yes!
No!
TIF Thoughts on Leeds’ World Cup plans…
It would be ideal for Marsch to essentially have another pre-season with all of his players, especially the likes of Junior Firpo and Liam Cooper who were injured over the summer, but some of his squad will inevitably be flying over to Qatar and representing their countries.
Therefore, taking the rest of his squad over to California rather than remaining at Thorp Arch will likely be the best way to turn an annoying situation into something potentially positive.
Marsch will be hoping that by the time this World Cup break comes around, Leeds have turned their form around, having only won twice all season, with their last victory coming at the end of August – as having a prolonged period of time off may get a lot more negative press if they haven’t done so.
