BBC Sport reporter Adam Pope has admitted that it could now be time to hand Crysencio Summerville a Leeds United start.

Leeds were frustrated for large parts on Sunday by referee Stuart Atwell, who sent off Luis Sinisterra, but also by their opponents, who seemingly time wasted for large chunks of the game – at least in the eyes of Jesse Marsch.

While Aston Villa may well have time-wasted, Leeds didn’t do enough with the possession they did have, managing six shots all game and registering just one on target. And coupled with the fact Sinisterra is set to miss this weekend’s game against Crystal Palace, Pope thinks Summerville could now be thrown in.

Speaking on the Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast, Pope said: “It’ll be interesting what happens up front, because if Bamford is ready… I thought again, like at Brentford, he showed great running; unlucky not to score, to be fair – or at least set up Mateusz Klich. So I wonder if he [Marsch] thinks, right, go for him.

Do you want Summerville to start on Sunday?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“I quite like the idea of having one of the younger guys, and whether it is a chance – do you give Summerville another go from the start? Or, do you go for [Sonny] Perkins or something?”

TIF Thoughts on Summerville…

The Dutch youngster has had a tough ride of things since joining Leeds in 2020, having been named on the bench several times last season up until the January transfer window, during which he asked to leave on loan – much to the annoyance of Marcelo Bielsa.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

Things haven’t seemingly got any better under Jesse Marsch, although he has featured in the last two games for Leeds, and with Luis Sinisterra now out of this weekend’s clash through suspension, he could be a potential option to unleash.

Summerville is still yet to start a Premier League game, but will be looking to hopefully grasp his chance under Marsch if it comes his way at the weekend against a Palace side sitting just one place above the bottom three.
