The Echo’s Tony Scott believes that it’s a no-brainer when it comes to Everton offering Anthony Gordon a new deal.

Gordon broke onto the scene last season under Rafael Benitez and then continued his great form under current manager Frank Lampard, which saw him linked with a big-money move away from Goodison Park over the summer.

The Toffees academy graduate ended up staying with the club amid talk of him being handed a new contract to reflect his role within the first-team squad, and Scott believes it should be a simple decision for Everton as to whether or not they should give him fresh terms.

Speaking on the All Together Now podcast, Scott insisted that Everton have to offer Gordon a new long-term contract to reflect his role and protect him as an asset to the club.

Scott said: “He is currently one of the lowest-paid players at the club so far, because obviously the contract he was on in terms of youth level. Do Everton give him a five-year contract on 100-odd grand a week? I don’t know.

Does Gordon deserve a new contract?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“In terms of the valuation of the player and what they could get for him, it’s an absolute no-brainer business-wise to give him a big contract and to get him to put pen to paper and make sure that they do get money for him.”

TIF Thoughts on a new contract for Gordon…

The Everton winger has certainly found it a lot more difficult this time around in the Premier League, with the 21-year-old currently having more bookings to his name than goal involvements. Indeed, Gordon has been cautioned six times while has only managed to net three goals and is yet to register an assist.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

However, he does only have a contract that runs until 2025, so come the end of the season he will have just two years left on his deal, so a new one should surely be at the top of the club’s priority list.

Otherwise, he could leave for nothing or at least a smaller transfer fee than he perhaps warrants, which could be a far cry from the reported £60m they could have received from Champions League regulars Chelsea over the summer.
