Everton have got a good chance of signing Blackburn Rovers and Chile striker Ben Brereton Diaz if he stays in England during the transfer window.

That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest transfer news from Goodison Park.

According to Football Insider, Sevilla are currently leading the race to sign Brereton Diaz in January, despite interest in both Everton and Leeds United.

With the 14-time international’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, Blackburn may be willing to let the striker leave for a cut-price fee in January rather than on a free next summer.

And Jones believes that if Brereton Diaz rejects the offer from Sevilla, Everton have “a decent chance” of securing his signature this winter.

He said: “If he stays in England, then they’ve probably got a decent chance.

“But they are going to have to beat off competition from Sevilla first.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We think that Brereton Diaz would represent a smart piece of business for Everton this summer, with the striker likely to add some much-needed depth to Frank Lampard’s striking department, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury issues.

The 23-year-old has become a regular goalscorer at Championship level, shown by the fact that he currently ranks as the league’s joint second-highest goalscorer this season, having scored eight goals and provided one assist in 18 appearances.

Therefore, we think that a step up to the Premier League would be the next logical step for the Chile international, and Everton could be the perfect place for him to find his feet in the top flight having now scored 48 goals in senior football.
