Aston Villa have been handed a timely injury boost ahead of Monday’s Premier League fixture.

The versatile defender missed last weekend’s trip to Leeds United due to undergoing a procedure on his appendix.

While the 27-year-old has started just one of the club’s seven league games this season he provides much-needed cover at both centre-back and right-back for Steven Gerrard.

Now it appears after a brief hiatus that the one-time Arsenal man will be available for selection against Nottingham Forest

Speaking on the Claret and Blue YouTube channel journalist John Townley said:

(11:28) “Callum Chambers should be back in contention he’s been training today, half the session and then they expect him to be training for the rest of the week so that’s a boost.”

TIF Thoughts on Chambers and Villa…

Should Calum Chambers start for Aston Vila?

Amid a serious injury to Diego Carlos without Chambers, Gerrard has only three names to call upon at the heart of his defence.

Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa have held it down at the back for the Villans for the majority of the campaign while summer arrival Jan Bednarek has been an option off the bench and was needed on the left following an injury to Ludwig Augustinsson at Leeds.

Ashley Young could well fill the gap at left-back on Monday with Matty Cash returning on the right but nonetheless Chambers’ availability will be welcomed by his manager.

Last season in the Premier League according to SofaScore the £9m-rated ace averaged 1.6 tackles, 3.8 clearances, and four duels won per game.

Numbers that saw him rank first for tackles among central defenders at the club while only Mings averaged more clearances and as such he will be a very welcome addition to the Villa matchday squad as the club chase a much-needed win at home to Forest.
