Aston Villa are a club with an ambitious project, which is something that may attract Mauricio Pochettino as the club’s potential next manager.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from Villa Park.

According to Football Insider, Villa Park could be the potential next destination for Pochettino, who has been out of work since his departure from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

It had been reported that the former Tottenham Hotspur manager was set to land the Nice job in France, but talk of the Argentine returning to France was shut down last week, with the 50-year-old manager looking for a top job in the Premier League or Serie A.

And O’Rourke believes that Villa will be an attractive proposition for Pochettino, should the opportunity become available.

“I think ambition is going to be the key for wherever Pochettino ends up next.

“He’s obviously managed some top clubs all around Europe, and I’m sure he will be looking to join a club that’s got an ambitious project, and Villa do have an ambitious project, there is no doubt about that.

“They have spent heavily in the transfer market to try and improve the squad under Steven Gerrard.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

Whilst we think that the majority of Villa fans would be delighted if they were to acquire the services of Pochettino, we think a move for the former Southampton manager is a long way off, with Gerrard still currently at the helm at Villa Park at the time of writing.

Though it is common practice for chairmen to have prospective manager’s lined up before the current man in place has left his role, we think that any links to Pochettino are premature at the moment.

However, we do think that if Villa could attract Pochettino to Villa Park in the near future, it would be a clear signal of their ambitions and their standing within the Premier League at the moment.
