Lucas Digne has taken to Instagram to post a cryptic message hinting at a potential soon return from injury for Aston Villa.

Digne was one of former Villa boss Steven Gerrard’s first big signings during the last January transfer window as the club splashed out £25 million for the French international, but he’s hardly made an impact in his first full season with the Midlands side due to injury.

The 29-year-old has been nursing an injury for several weeks now having not played a competitive game since September against Southampton, however, he could now be finally edging closer to a return.

This is because Digne has posted on Instagram a picture of him back in training accompanied by a sand timer emoji, suggesting that it’s getting closer to his first team return.

Will Digne play this weekend?

TIF Thoughts on Digne…

It will be interesting to see how Digne is utilised and performs under new manager Unai Emery as he was clearly a big fan of Gerrard having thanked the former boss for what he did during their time together at Villa Park.

Emery may well believe that someone such as Ashley young is more experienced and accomplished to carry out his instructions, so Digne’s future is far from certain to be in the starting lineup from when the new boss arrives.

However, given Young’s age, it’s not ideal for him to be starting every week, something he’s been doing often, so Digne seemingly edging closer to a return and full fitness will surely only be good news for Villa, especially if he can return in time for this weekend’s tough away game at Newcastle United who’ve lost just once at St James’ Park in the league this year.
