Roy Keane might not be a “serious option” for West Brom in their search for a new manager.

That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from The Hawthorns.

West Brom sacked Steve Bruce last week after a run of one win in 13 games left the Baggies in the Championship relegation zone prior to their trip to Reading.

Keane had emerged as the early favourite to take the hotseat at The Hawthorns, but he later dismissed the talk as “nonsense” when speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

And amid links to the likes of Scott Parker and Sean Dyche, Jones believes that even if the Premier League icon was interested in taking the job, he “probably shouldn’t” be considered as an option based on his track record.

He said: “I don’t know if Roy Keane is a serious option.

“He probably shouldn’t be, based on track records and what West Brom need very quickly. It would seem a risk.

“But a lot of those other guys have had reasonable success quite recently and probably are looked at as better options.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We agree with Jones and don’t believe that West Brom had ever really considered Keane as a serious option, and the rumours were just reactive speculation in the immediate aftermath of Bruce’s sacking.

At the time of writing, we think options such as Dyche, Gary Rowett and Chris Wilder are much more realistic and appealing, with those three managers all currently or recently in work.

Therefore, we think that Jones is correct and that Keane is unlikely to be a contender to replace Bruce in the Hawthorns dugout.
