Out of work Chris Wilder has been backed to become the next West Bromwich Albion manager, after the sacking of Steve Bruce on Monday.
That is according to RoversLive reporter Elliot Jackson, who was reacting to the former Newcastle United manager’s sacking.
Bruce was sacked on Monday morning after winning one game out of his last 13, leaving the Baggies sitting in the Championship relegation zone after earning just 11 points from a possible 39.
The 61-year-old’s sacking had seemed inevitable for a few weeks following the club’s extremely poor run of form, and the club may have had time to survey a replacement as they contemplated his sacking.
And Jackson believes that whilst Wilder is the obvious choice, Mark Robins would be his pick to take the job at the Hawthorns.
“Inevitable. Felt like the wrong decision when he was appointed, particularly on an 18-month contract,” Jackson tweeted.
“The obvious fit would be Chris Wilder given their previous interest or do they look elsewhere?
“Of those in work, Mark Robins would be my pick for #WBA.”
TIF Thoughts on Jackson’s comments
We agree with Jackson to some extent, and believe that Wilder would be the ideal fit at the Hawthorns this season.
Despite being given the sack from Middlesbrough earlier in the campaign, the former Sheffield United manager has proven pedigree at Championship level, and he could be just what the West Midlands side need to turn their season around and avoid the disaster of relegation to League One. As well as his time at Sheffield United, he made a name for himself at Northampton Town so he knows what it takes to create a winning culture, which is exactly what West Brom need right now.
Therefore, we believe that Wilder would be the ideal choice, and we think West Brom should prioritise his appointment over that of Mark Robins, who is struggling to get results as Coventry City boss. Although, it seems as if he had a bit of success against the Baggies as he stated that his side ‘controlled’ the Midlands club in their clash last season.
