Journalist Joe Nicholson handed Edouard Michut a 5/10 after his latest performance for Sunderland’s Under-21s as he was seemingly too weak on the ball.

Sunderland and their fans will have been very excited over the summer when they managed to land some top young talent from big European clubs, with both Amad Diallo and Michut arriving on loan, with journalist Michael Graham labelling the latter’s arrival as ‘superb’.

While Diallo has already made six appearances for the first team, Michut has been handed just 14 minutes of first-team football, and he may well have a long way to go if his performance last night for the Under-21s was anything to go by.

Nicholson pointed out how often Michut was knocked off the ball against Leeds United’s youth team, saying: “Played in a deep-lying midfielder role and tried to receive the ball in front of Sunderland’s back four. Played a few tidy passes but was knocked off the ball at times.”

TIF Thoughts on Michut…

Given that Michut is still only 19 and had just 183 minutes of first-team experience under his belt from his time out in France, it’s no surprise that it has seemingly taken him a little bit longer to adapt to English football and Sunderland’s style of play.

However, this match against Leeds’ U21s – which would have pitted him against players of similar build and age – should’ve been a game where he showcased his talents, but again, the physical side of things appeared to hold him back.

This current PL centre-back almost signed for Sunderland back in 2015.

If that’s what he’s doing in front of very few fans who can get annoyed at him and with players of a similar age, it doesn’t bode well for his chances of first-team minutes under Tony Mowbray in the near future.
