Journalist James Hunter has slammed Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil after he performed poorly in the club’s most recent game.
In the Championship this weekend, the Black Cats tasted defeat as they fell to a 2-1 away defeat in Wales against Swansea City which leaves them 11th in the league.
Ollie Cooper gave the Swans an early lead before defender Harry Darling netted to give his side a two-goal advantage, this was needed as Jack Clarke pulled one back for Sunderland but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
Having failed to pick up even a point on the road, a number of players would have felt they weren’t at the best but it seems as though Neil stood out for all the wrong reasons.
Indeed, in the player ratings for Chronicle Live, Hunter handed the Sunderland man a 5/10 and wrote: “Back in the starting XI but not at his best.”

The 20-year-old had only been afforded 22 minutes off the bench against Blackpool in the Sunderland game prior, which ended up as a 0-0 draw (via Transfermarkt).
Back in the team this weekend, though, he failed to make much of a positive impact. Indeed, when you look at his stats on SofaScore, it’s fair to say Neil struggled to assert himself on the game in any major way as he lost the ball nine times, gave away two fouls and was also dribbled around once.
All in all, not an ideal outing for the midfielder who was evidently ‘not at his best’ and he’ll be hoping for a much better display next time out with a fixture against Wigan at home on the horizon.
