Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane’s future is being speculated on, but reports of interest from Premier League rivals are wide of the mark, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer guru has been speaking on his YouTube channel about the England captain, who now has under two years remaining on his current deal in north London.
Reports from Italy have suggested Graham Potter’s Chelsea side would be interested in pursuing a potential swap-plus-cash deal for Kane involving striker Romelu Lukaku.
It has also been suggested Bayern Munich have thrown their hat in the ring with some serious interest in the Englishman as they look to add an out-and-out striker.
But when it comes to Tottenham’s London rivals, who Kane has scored seven goals against, there is nothing serious in the reports which recently emerged.
Romano said: “First of all, rumours on Chelsea on a swap deal with Lukaku – because we know that Antonio Conte is a big fan of Romelu Lukaku, he was absolutely fantastic at Inter with Conte as the manager – but as of now, guys, there is absolutely nothing on this story.
“As of today, September, nothing is going on between Tottenham, Chelsea, agents of the player, for a Kane-Lukaku swap deal – nothing at all.”
TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…
There are a number of reasons which make the idea of a reported trade unrealistic, and perhaps the biggest is that Spurs and Chelsea – historically, at least – do not deal in the market.
Do you expect Kane to retire at Spurs?
Yes
No
However, there is also a dramatic gulf in class between Kane and Lukaku at present, with the Chelsea man having returned to Inter on loan after failing to impress upon his return to England.
Lukaku scored nine fewer league goals than Kane in what was the Englishman’s lowest return in years last season, and goals aside, the Belgian does not offer anything close to Kane’s output in terms of assists.
Although the Belgian does have a history under Antonio Conte, it is hard to see Spurs being open to even listening to any potential offer.
It’s more a case of hope than expectation. The same hope goes for Sonny too.
