Newcastle United will be targeting another forward in the January transfer window having only brought in one over the summer.

This has been suggested by the journalist Ross Gregory who has been speaking all things Newcastle on the latest NUFC Matters YouTube channel.

The Toon broke their transfer record to bring in Alexander Isak in the summer window for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £63m.

And the Swedish striker has made a bright start to life on Tyneside having already netted twice in his opening three Premier League appearances (via Transfermarkt).

But as Callum Wilson once again finds himself injured, Gregory believes the Toon will dip into the January market with another forward on their radar:

(25:00) “In terms of players coming in January, I think they will, I think they will target a player or two. I think they will continue to look for attacking options. January is a very, very difficult, difficult window to get the right players in. Are they going to be available? Are they going to be available at the right price?”

TIF Thoughts on Gregory’s comments…

Wilson’s injury record is a massive concern. He has undoubted quality in front of goal, however, you simply cannot plan for a season with him leading the line.

Do NUFC need to move on from Wilson?

Now Newcastle have put such a heavy investment into the Swede, it will be interesting to see if Wilson does have a future at St. James’ Park.

The striker now only has two years remaining on his deal at Newcastle, but you do have to question whether they’d be better off just moving on because of his injury issues.
