Newcastle United are now likely to not make any late moves today with their focus now on the January transfer window.
This has been suggested by the reliable journalist Luke Edwards who has been speaking on BBC’s Transfer Gossip Daily podcast to discuss the latest from Tyneside.
With hours remaining of this summer’s window, Eddie Howe has seen the owners complete four permanent deals this summer with the latest shattering their transfer record in the big-money addition of Alexander Isak.
It has been a bright start to the campaign for the Magpies, and although thei unbeaten run has now come to an end, there is certainly cause for optimism with a much brighter start than that of last season.
Although only four additions have been acquired this summer, over £122m has been spent on Tyneside and Edwards believes this is more than PIF had planned for:
“I think Newcastle now will keep their powder dry a little bit till January. They’ve probably spent a little bit more money than they wanted to, I think, in this window, I think it’s fair to say because of FFP rules. I think they’ve stretched a little bit.
“So I don’t think Newcastle will [move today]. The message from St James’ Park is they’ll keep a watching brief on what happens on deadline day. You know, the old cliche, never say never. But really, I think the senior sources there are saying business is probably done.”

One thing has been apparent this summer at St. James’ Park is that the owners have not spent for the sake of it and have passed up on deals when they have not felt the player meets the valuation.

This has been seen with the likes of Moussa Diaby and James Maddison when the Toon did not go above their valuations of the players and were forced to exit the race for the pair.
But when the right player came up, like Isak, they did not hesitate and got the deal done quickly and are already reaping the rewards from the big-money signing.
So if Newcastle do not make any moves today, then we think the owners should now have gained the trust of the fans and should be planning for the January window where they may look to address their needs for a midfielder.
