Everton are expected to return their interest in the Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz when the January transfer window opens.

This has been suggested by journalist Pete O’Rourke who has been speaking to GiveMeSport about the future of the Chilean striker.

It was heavily reported that Frank Lampard’s side held a serious interest in the 23-year-old during the summer but the striker remained at Ewood Park come the window’s deadline.

Brereton Diaz impressed last season with 22 goals in the Championship and he has made a promising start to the new campaign with four goals in his opening 10 appearances (via Transfermarkt).

However, he is now playing into the final year of his deal which has naturally got O’Rourke speculating ahead of the January transfer window:

“Brereton Diaz, I’m sure, will be somebody that they will look at again in January, knowing that his price tag will be reduced due to his contract situation as well. So I think Everton, if they are in the market for attacking reinforcements, Brereton Diaz will probably be pretty high up the list.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

We think this is a deal which could make a lot of sense for the Toffees looking ahead to the January window given their ongoing issues up top.

Would Brereton Diaz be a good addition?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Lampard’s men are among some of the league’s lowest scorers with just six goals to their name over their opening seven games in the Premier League.

This may partly be down to the ongoing injury issues to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and with reports still linking Anthony Gordon with a potential move away, reinforcement could be crucial in January.

Brereton Diaz, who has been hailed as ‘elite’, is yet to play in the English top flight, however, with his current deal nearing its end, this could certainly offer Everton a cheap source of goals.
