Crystal Palace are expected to show an interest in the midfielder Conor Gallagher in the January transfer window.

This has been suggested by the journalist Tom Barclay who has been speaking to GiveMeSport about the future of the 22-year-old midfielder.

It has been a difficult start to the new campaign for the Englishman who is yet to play a full game in the Premier League for Chelsea and has already picked up one red card (via Transfermarkt).

And in recent days, it was confirmed Gallagher had been left out of Gareth Southgate’s final pre-World Cup England squad which perhaps only highlights his current struggles.

As Graham Potter now takes charge of the Blues, Barclay has suggested his former loanee side, Palace, could be a potential landing spot if a move is on the cards in January:

“I wouldn’t be surprised that come January, we’re not even talking about this as a possible transfer because he’s become a big part of Graham Potter’s plans,” he told GMS.

“But obviously, if that doesn’t prove to be the case and he is out of the picture, then a player of that quality, particularly being an England international, if he became available, then you’d be pretty certain that Palace would be interested.”

TIF Thoughts on Barclay’s comments…

We would certainly be interested to see if this was a move which could come to fruition given Gallagher enjoyed some of his best football at Selhurst Park last season.

Would you have Gallagher back at Palace?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Over the course of his time in south London with the Eagles, Gallagher was able to return eight goals and three assists in the Premier League alone – a stark contrast to his struggles to even land a regular spot in the XI currently.

A potential move in January will come too late to affect his hopes of going to the World Cup, however, it will give Gallagher plenty of time to assess whether he needs to leave Stamford Bridge to better his future.
