Image for Liverpool: Thiago image could hint at Napoli start

Liverpool recently shared a picture of star midfielder Thiago in training ahead of their Champions League opener – which could hint he is set to start against Napoli tonight.

The Spain international picked up a knock in the side’s opening game of the Premier League season and has yet to make an appearance since – and the Reds have struggled to find consistent form since he came out of the side.

They have only managed to win two of their last five games without Thiago and suffered a loss to bitter rivals Manchester United as well as draws to Crystal Palace and Merseyside rivals Everton.

However, in what was sure to be to the delight of Liverpool fans, it was recently reported that the 31-year-old was back in full training ahead of their Champions League opener against Napoli on Wednesday evening, with the club posting a picture of him back on the pitch on their official Instagram page:

With his return to first-team contention as Liverpool search for a win against the Italian side, we could see Thiago slotted back into the starting XI ahead of the likes of Harvey Elliott, James Milner or Fabio Carvalho.

TIF Thoughts on Thiago potentially starting against Napoli…

Speaking on Tuesday, Jurgen Klopp refused to be drawn on whether Thiago would start – though we wouldn’t be surprised if makes a return tonight following this post.

Last season, Thiago was an instrumental piece of the team as he picked up two goals and five assists, and ranks in the 99th percentile for progressive passes, in the 97th for progressive carries and in the 90th for shot-creating actions compared to other midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues over the last year.

We feel getting him back in the starting lineup and ready to go is going to be key to Liverpool’s success this season – and there is no better place to start this than in the Champions League tonight.
