Journalist Rob Guest has slammed Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min for his display during the club’s most recent game.

On Wednesday night, Champions League football returned to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Spurs took on Marseille in their first game of the competition’s group stages.

After a tricky first half for Antonio Conte’s men,  Chancel Mbemba’s red card turned the game on its head and Tottenham eventually took advantage, going on to win 2-0 thanks to a brace from Richarlison.

Despite the win, not everyone in a Spurs shirt was at their best on the night, and one man in particular was singled out for his ‘frustrating’ display.

Indeed, in his player ratings for Football.london, Guest handed Son a 6/10 rating after the game, writing: “Following a bright performance against Fulham, Son struggled in the first half but was then in the action as he was fouled by Mbemba which saw the Marseille man sent off. A frustrating night for the player.”

TIF Thoughts on Son Heung-min and Spurs…

According to SofaScore’s stats, Son gave the ball away 17 times – which was the joint-worst in his team. He also won just two of his eight duels and failed to have a single shot on target.

This game seems to sum up the South Korean’s start to the season, as he is yet to score despite starting all six of Spurs’ Premier League games up to this point.

With all that in mind, it’s no shock to hear Guest’s sentiments echoed by Dan Kilpatrick of the Evening Standard, as he handed Son a 5/1o player rating and said the winger ‘looks worryingly short of sharpness and confidence’.
